31-03-2007 Green laning in Wales

Almost a re-run of the previous weeks outing but Ray was desperate to go so we got lazy with the route planning. We did come across one new lane that proved interesting though. Most of these pictures are courtesy of Peter and his son Tom.

Heading north west from Newtown towards Macynlleth we stopped on SN8494-5a for some breakfast.

The northern end of SN8494-5a is a bit washed out on the correct route but that's ok. Good job we decided to follow the correct route because we had a chat with the landowner who turned up and he was having a moan about people skipping onto his track early to avoid the wash out.

Turned out all the twisting and turning on the end of SN8494-5a had bent Keith's already weakened track rod so we had to stop at the southern end of SN8097-6a and fit the new heavy duty track rod he'd purchased and not had time to fit yet.

We drove the remainder of SN8097-6a and then continued on to SN7898-5a which needed some careful driving so please check my notes on Wayfinder before driving this lane and do so at your own risk! Part way along there is a wash out at the side of the track that doesn't leave quite enough width of track to avoid falling in. We set up some waffle boards to make up the edge a little and then slowly winched past for safety. Once past the wash out the track is quite narrow and overgrown so you have to pick your way through carefully.

Then we drove SH7401-2a before moving on to a few lanes in the area of SN 70617 83212 which I can't remember 8 months later! I do have records somewhere if it ever becomes important.
